AWAN-AFRIKA's 1ST CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE AND #VALUE4HER B2B FAIR

“Today, we have this opportunity to accelerate the manufacture and intra- African trade of value-added products, moving from commodity based economies and exports to economic diversification and high-value exports”, explained Beatrice Gakuba, AWAN-Afrika’s Executive Director. ir is a platform for African women in Agribusiness to discuss specific trade and market related issues affecting the way they conduct their businesses, inform on advantages and new markets opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Additionally, it offers a platform for business-to-business deal making, for African women in Agribusiness under the Banner #VALUE4HER. The idea is to connect women businesses with producers, aggregators, brokers, processors, exporters, Agri-tech companies, investors and other value chain actors.

This gathering will include women in agribusiness from more than 27 African countries, development partners, public and private sector, business officials, International organizations and government officials.

During the conference, selected women and youth in agribusiness will be sharing their success stories and exhibiting in the various areas of the agricultural sector. Participants will be taken through practical and engaging sessions at the conference to enable them gain deeper insights into best practices as well as on how to take full advantage of the numerous opportunities in the agricultural sector for growth. “Networking is our force”, they are saying.

“The markets have opened, let’s support women venture into those markets! By supporting them develop their products; to brand and to package; enhancing quality, safety and standards; by fulfilling all market entry requirements; by acquiring the necessary finances to scale up their operations; most importantly by networking and creating business relationships in different markets”, said Sabdiyo Dido Bashuna, Senior Technical Adviser Value Chains & Agribusiness, Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).

The Network was established in 2003 with a vision to create a platform for African women in Agribusiness to access market, trade information and finance so as to become significant players in global trade. AWAN-Afrika subscribes to Agenda 2063 particularly the Malabo declaration on Agriculture and Agenda 2030 in developing a people driven, relying on potential of African people especially its women and youth.
